White Eighth Scanning - advanced (and secret) version of the Third Eye Meditation - with a connection to Vipassana and Kundalini meditation techniques - visualised on the Black Hat, the main ceremony of Karmapa, Tibetan Kagyu tradition Practised by Miloslav Dorda, born in the Czech Republic, 19.9.1964 - in December 2010 in Dhammapala Monastery, Kandersteg, Bern, CH - for 3-5 days during morning and evening silent meditation, after his decision to become a monk - appeared spontaneously, without any consciously received instructions, disappeared after leaving Dhammapala In presence of monks and visitors of Dhammapala - resident monk Tan Nandiyo: Vipassana technique, he uses it often (not sure if the White Eighth Scanning too) - visitor monk Ajahn Ahimsako: not familiar with such meditation, http://www.amaravati.org/about/male-monastic-community/ - Swami Gorakhnath, Dhammapala visitor from Agastya Siddha Ashram, neighbour meditator, http://agastyashram.com/about-us.html#about-swami - Catherine Brau, Ayurveda yoga teacher with Swami in Dhammapala, neighbour meditator, http://ayurveda-yoga-angers.com/profil/ Who else knows or practises it - Chöje Lama Palmo, 2013 in Vienna: very advanced technique, do not speak in public about it, https://www.palpung.eu/palpung-europe-ueber-uns/choje-lama-palmo/ - Lharampa Tenzin Kalden, Tibetan monk living in Switzerland, 2013 in Felsentor: yes, I know, http://www.lharampa-tenzin.ch/?page_id=55 - the key characteristics, lying white Eighth, symbolically displayed on Karmapa's black hat, http://www.swisshike.com/_img/karmapa16thcrown8.png Warning from Bhikkhu Gavesako Zda se mi, ze pokud chces praktikovat tuto techniku ci neco podobneho, mel bys radeji vyhledat nejaky tibetsky klaster, kde neco takoveho uci a maji s tim zkusenosti. V nasi tradici tyto techniky neucime, naopak od nich spis lidi odrazujeme, protoze uz jsme meli vice pripadu, ze se lidem nejak rozbehla kundalini, az se z toho zblaznili a museli k psychiatrovi... V ramci theravady by snad jedine mohli neco podobneho praktikovat v barmske tradici Pa Auk Sayadaw. I feel that if you want to practice this technique or something similar, you should better find some Tibetan monastery where they are teaching something like that and have the experience. In our tradition, we do not teach these techniques; on the contrary, we rather discourage people, because we have had more cases of people whose Kundalini was running out of the way and having to go to the psychiatrist ... In the Theravada, they could only practice something like that in the Burmese tradition of Pa Auk Sayadaw. Phases: 1) initial deep relaxation 2) tube 3rd eye breathing 3) tumultuous max-min pranayama 4) energy rise out 5) white eighth scan 6) energy go back 7) final tonic relaxation Description of 7 steps: 1) deep relaxation - half closed eyes fixed to a light point - concentration on the breath in and out - full relaxation of muscle tone - deep relaxation till bliss feelings - not easy to achieve it (after ~30 mins) 2) tube 3rd eye breathing - after achieving the deep relaxation state - concentration on the 3rd eye forehead point - deeper tube breathing with a smooth noise - following the breath in up to the 3rd eye - eighth shaped circulating movement of the eye concentration point - trying to warm, enlarge and open the 3rd eye - might be difficult to open the 3rd eye (after ~10 mins) 3) tumultuous max-min pranayama - after warming and opening the third eye - spontaneous very deep maximum inspirations and expirations - makes a scaring racket noise, but not intentionally produced - only about ten tumultuous full lung capacity intakes and outtakes - appears spontaneously, without any intention of disturbing the silence - short but disturbing step (up to 1 minute) 4) energy rise out - after the last deep inspiration - rise out of the ku-energy through the 3rd eye - the start of the silent phase almost without breathing - a key point with a change of mental state (I know NOW I am IN) - brain clean effect: removes immediately the overload stress 5) white eighth scan - silent phase at the beginning without breathing - later only superficial very slight silent respiration - the White Eighth Ku-energy is subjectively visible on the forehead - lying 8-shaped shaggy/fleecy/woolly white matter, perceived without surprise - moves usually over the top and back of the head towards the neck spine - can be targeted to other body sites to treat them by 8-scanning - very characteristic state out of usual experience (difficult to describe) - spontaneous corrections of the sitting position to optimum for meditation - a block of most sensitive body feelings (out of body feelings) - inner healing: Eighth scanning on parts of own body - outer healing: Distant treating of foreign bodies - a bit deeper breathing needed if you want to go further 6) energy go back - at the end of meditation (when feeling the soft gong sound) - the back has to be arched (it runs spontaneously) - a very deep inspiration for going back into a body 7) final tonic relaxation - an opening of the eyes - a feeling of muscles toning - relaxing and contemplating the experience
